The rag doll is made with no needle used.
The bookmark can be used as a detachable marker: its flat part is inserted between pages and the doll sticks out from a book cover. Alternatively, it can be used as an attachable bookmark if one side is fixed at the beginning or end of a book and the other side marks the necessary page. The doll figure remains over an upper part of a cover. The doll represents a married woman. Its most frequently used name is Veps Doll, after the place of its origin; in some regions it was also called Shawl Seller, Wet-nurse, Mum or Nanny.
